Switch to energy saving bulbs

In thestar.com today: http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2010/3/19/nation/5889920&sec=nation

I really applause this move. It's a good move in the right direction. An energy saving bulb is more expensive than the normal bulb, but they're much more efficient. There's a lot of resources readily available for reading on the net if you're into technical and empirical comparison between normal vs energy savings bulbs.

But just to give you some idea, a 15W energy saving bulb is meant to replace a 60W normal. Which means the energy savings bulb is using just 1/4 of the electrical power, but producing more or less the same amount of light.

Some may say, how would that be possible? It cannot be. The answer is efficiency. The normal bulb can only convert small portion of the electrical power into light, the rest are dissipated as heat. Have you ever tried to change a 60W light bulb after being turned on for more than a minute or so? It's really, really hot indeed. But an energy savings bulb is much cooler.

So make the switch now!
